A local NGO by the name of Community Concern Somalia (CCS)has mobilized a rural village to build a school. A young girl,QAMAR, who goes to that school expresses her appreciation and gratitude to CCS for helping her find education at her village. In our country illiteracy is very high, especially in the periphery due to lack of education facility and largely due to unaffordability of the parents to send their children to urban areas where almost all the resources and services of the nation are concentrated. Unless that system of ruling the nation from the center is changed this grim picture will persist for many years to come. A bottom up approach of management should be adopted as a strategy to reverse the gloomy situation currently existing in countries of the Third World.

Born poor in this village
I never saw a school or a clinic
Until I reached the age of fifteen
Books and pens were as strange
As items brought from space
I grew up unaware of myself
But hope has finally arrived
With the help of CCS agency
We managed to build a school
Illiteracy came under attack
With the weapons of education
We chased it out callously rough
Now I can brilliantly read and write
Surely I have found the torch of life
In my heart fire of hope is glowing
I no more hit the rocks of ignorance
Light can best be appreciated
By those who lived in the dark
