I remember the day darkness rained in NY
It was the day terror milked clouds of ash
I was on phone when the crash took place
But I immediately switched it off
As my eyes fell on the TV screen
I saw an explosion in the World Trade Center
The scene was horrible and quite harrowing.
I saw a plane mutating into a jet fighter
It crashed the North tower in New York
Just within a space of few minutes
Another plane slammed the South Tower
I saw half of it crumbling over itself
I saw people running for their lives
I saw firemen bravely rushing in amid
clouds of fire and whoozing flame
I saw Sister Towers drowning in a sea of despair
“This is terrorism” I told myself
What a nasty loss! What a human tragedy
What a pain in the neck of humanity
OOH..I recall that day just too well
People all over the world felt the horror...and yours is no less powerful, living in Somalia. Well done, you not only met the challenge, you far exceeded it with moving verse; thank you for remembering our loss!
Abdi Noor thank you for sharing your thoughts and meeting the challenge! I agree with Sherry, it is a way to bring more understanding and hopefully uniting us in an effort to not
become biased.Well done ,brother! Eileen
The imagery of the crumbling of the building keeps flashing back at me while I was reading your poem. I couldn't believe it was happening even I knew it was true when I watched the TV. I can't imagine the terrors that went inside the heads of those who were in that building. Worse yet, some were not working in the building, but were there just for the day to attend a meeting...
Your recollection of those tragic events still brings goosebumps to my skin and a dagger to my heart. I would like to say that I have healed, but honest prohibits me from saying that. Terrorism is a strange type of war...those people ask for nothing, they are not like the usual enemy, all they want is wide-spread pain and destruction, over and over again. How do we deal with such an enemy? How do we forgive them and love them, because after all, they are our brothers and sisters and they are God's children. Thank you for taking my challenge, Abdi-Noor and thank you for putting your memories of that day on the board so that together, perhaps we can find healing.
Take care,
Sherry
I shall never forget the following days as the TV inundated us for hours on end and I thought when will the madness stop. A small voice said never in your lifetime without the intervention of those concerned with the healing of the planet and its' people. 911 is indeed an international emergency call. Peace, love, and blessings to you and yours little brother. <Mikii>
