In Africa dictatorship is intricately interwoven within the fabrics of social and cultural set up of the communities. So it is hard to produce a liberal democratic leader. A husband has absolute powers at family level while a chief is a traditional dictator and a leader of his community. What else do you think these two can come up with as a leader?
Democracy is not a commodity you can borrow or import from other nations, it is something that has to come from within the people themselves.
In this world of wonder
There are two leaders
One believes in democracy
The other is simply a dictator
Both are the products of their people
Enlightened people produce good leaders
Illiterate masses manufacture dictators
With Light a dictator gets blind
As without darkness he can not rule
He exploits his people's innocence
But once they understand their rights
A dictator's throne shakes in the bottom
And eventually crumbles over itself
He vows that he had brought justice
But justice can not operate
Within the premises of injustice
Unclean hands need to be cleaned first
Before they start cleaning other hands
What You write is true Abdi Noor; that is why we vote for the person we think will be the best person for the job.However, a Democracy has been set up over 200yrs ago when America was an infant so if we should be under a dictarship it would not be tolorated. As for fathers of family having this kind of power over families, he is losing this power as more and more women are educated(once not permitted) and children are now treated with more freedom. Back in the mid last century when many countries in Africa were getting the right to govern themselves I thought that the day will come when Africa will be a continent to admire and perhaps even fear. I was wrong. I see only strife, war, hatred, hunger, rape, disease and ignorance. What a pity. Victor

Once the people are given a taste of God and his Holy Commandments, then Justice and Equity will prevail again in this disillusioned and misguided world..
