Some cultural customs need to be eradicated and this is certainly one of them. Perhaps in times when we knew no better there may have been a purpose to it all, but not in today's world. In my opinion, seven years in prison is not enough; this practice damages the female for life and so it should be for the one who allows this mutilation to be performed. A woman who can't bear children in a society that practices such mutilations is probably doomed, yet it was by their own hand that she is barren. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, not enough words of protest can be uttered on this topic.

That is sooo terrible. The girls must be horrified. I can't imagine the terrors that go through their minds during the rituals. The parents need to be executed for this evil act. Sin! Sin!! Sin!!!

Very sad practice Abdinoor. It still continues despite its harmful consequences: immediate infection, bleeding to death, recurrent infection, menstrual problems, sexual dysfunction, infertility, problems having a baby, emotional damage and all the things you captured in these few words. Somalis in developed countries are still performing this evil in private. It is either done at home without the second phase of your poem because that invites the police here. Or a parent takes the girl to Somalia or Kenya for FGM. A man was recently convicted of doing it to his daughter in the US and he was sentenced to seven years in prison. All those who practice FGM deserve the same. It is a very cruel act and thank you very much for highlighting the process.
