Female Genital mutilation is not a cultural issue. It is a crime, whether or not those who practice FGM know it.
At six a knife cut her across
Her genitals were mutilated
On the sand there was blood
In her body she has a smudge
Her private part was disfigured
She has a scar on her vagina
In her mind she has a wound
Her psyche is utterly agonized
She suffers a life-time trauma
Her soul is dented shoddily
Her sexual life is impaired
To her sex is a painful affair
She underwent a rite of passage
Culturally she is no more a child
They stole a precious period of her life
She is supposed to act like an adult
She is denied the right to be a child
But feelings of inadequacy perturb her
And the culprits are her own parents
Whom she thought to be parents of love
But turned out to be robbers of joy

Abdi-Noor, I read the mufti of Egypt issued a fatwa forbidding female genital mutilation after an 11 year old girl died. How can we merge such fear and power into 'religious' practice that has nothing to add to spirituality, to the presence of God, to hope, patience or love? Keep your protest voice high, Abdi-Noor; we need you to keep orclaiming the truth.

On a scale the period pain is at ten
Life continues with chronic infections
This is due to blockage of the passage
For both urine and periods stay inside
All because of an evil rite of passage
She takes her honeymoon in excessive pain
.... You said it all in here, Abdinoor. It is an evil practics that haunts the innocent girl for the rest of her life. Everything becomes difficult: Urinating, having menstrual periods, sex, having a baby, enjoying life, ....
