If you are in Mogadishu, beauty and civility are a crime. Don’t go near them. Don't grow a long beard either. It can put you at great risk. Don't speak at all though silence itself can lead you to trouble as you can be jailed or you can even be killed for not speaking in praise of evil. As a poet and writer living under such horrendous circumstances, what sort of life do you think I am leading?
Beauty is a crime Punishable by death Insurgents may think You are a politician Gainfully paid by gov’t Long beard is a crime It can put one at risk As gov’t may think You are an insurgent Gainfully paid by terrorists Speaking out is a crime Silence too is a crime In this war-torn city Everything is a crime Being religious is a crime Being unreligious is a crime too Between fear and frustration Our hearts are torn into pieces

Such a painful life is yours. We have a saying "damned if you do and damned if you don't". It is a lose/lose situation. But, keep your eye on what makes your life good, because in the end it is you who has to answer to Allah/God for what you've done throughout your life.
