The Somali born American Model,Iman, was at her university premises in Nairobi when Mr. Beard discovered her. Her moslem somali background must be disturbing her from afar as it is not easy to shake off these identities so soon. With the names of her children still remain Somali and moslem, a war must be going on inside her as to which way she should tilt. And if that is the case the war must have been going on for a long time.
Like a gazelle strolling in the plains
She waded the misty air with pleasure
Moving with the royal majesty of a queen
Not feeling any threat of being hunted
As her cautious eyes spotted no poacher
Little did she know of the one lurking
around
She was Iman in her university compound
He was a photographer hunting for beauty
He shot her with a beam of a photo snap
The penetrating rays sparked a breath of joy
She struck a fortune of fame and wealth
As she was crowned as a top American model
But behind the shadow of material gains
There lies a a myriad of existence problems
Her conflicting identities need reconciliation
I often wondered if she has done anything to help her people. I certainly hope she would fight for woman's rights and be a voice to be heard. Some how I feel she is a bit lost though.

Conflicting emotions in this one, Abdi-Noor, to be Somalian or to be American? The pride of one's birthcountry; the pride of having made her name known in America. Perhaps, she can raise the plight of the Somali people; I hope so. I've always thought she was graceful and elegant. =] Well penned, my (((Brother))).
