Inspired by a story sent to me by my friend Regis Auffray. In the world, especially in countries of the third world there is huge loss of potentialities that are lost untapped. I dedicate this poem to the creative and talented men and women who lack the necessary support to grow and shine in their respective fields of work.
He was just an average boy in the streets
He sang for the people in his spare time
But only the wind lent an ear to his songs
Nobody thought he deserved attention
Everybody gave him a discerning look
But the boy was an incomparable genius
Who has not come to public attention
Until a musical band discovered him
With promiotions of high quality, though
He preformed at the national theatre
Taking the whole city with
a power of an unimaginable storm
Strangley enough he sang the same songs
Talent should be detected early enough
should not be visible only when it shines
This was a talent nearly wasted.

This is too true, and we must stop and listen and find another treasure glistening in the wind!
This reminds me of a GREAT MOVIE called "AUGUST RUSH" can be found on Amazon.com - About a little boy who was discovered and he touched so many people in their lives and found his mOm and Dad again, but started on the streets /etc. YOU must see it if you can! He ends up in a HUGE Theatre, bigger than that too!
This touched my heart deeply! More talent needs to recognized!

There are many talents in all the arts, wasted Abdi Noor! It's a shame, but many families never see the talent in their own children, or other family members. The Bible has a saying of Jesus who says" A prophet is never recognized in his own home town,or by his own family." Excellent poem!
Oh, I have received that article from Regis too. I think the purpose was to test how many people would recognize the same talents from a young man when given different scenarios to perform: One in a subway corner; the other in a large concert theatre.
The test showed that people do not know much about recognizing talents, because their eyes are at the top of their heads. The young boy who performed in the subway received almost no attention, even though it was the same young man who received applause and admiration when he performs in theatres.
Many people are uncaring, especially that mother who had pushed and hurried her child out of the young man's way.
The truth of the matter: Sad that people only have eyes for the rich!
They say that if you need badly to sell your wares don't price them cheap, because an outrageously costly one will have the snobs stampeding to buy.
The songs of the boy were for free and nobody notices, but when they needed to pay for hear him....
Amen to that, Abdi-Noor, amen to that. If we nuture our children and encourage them to dream, what great things can be accomplished? So glad for places for writers to let their words shine, such as Author's Den ... beautiful, meaningful write. Well done, my (((friend))).
