Eric Bjorklund, a friend of mine in Kisa town, Sweden, has just returned from Kenya to see projects he and his Kenyan friend, Gerre, started 25 years ago in a kenyan village called kimilili. I applaud their friendship which has started as coincidence in the streets of nairobi but later on developed to a stage where they implemented a project to assist the handicapped people in Kimilili. I dedicate my poem to these two jewel-hearted humans. Agencies commit huge inputs to poor communities around the world and despite enormous political support they achieve little or virtúally nothing. But Eric and Gerre go in very low profile and achieve such miraculous results with very little resources that are almost negligible compared to those disappeared in similar projects run by agencies.

Men of integrity
Of commitment and dedication
Living in two different worlds
But spinning in the same thinking orbit
Having dreams of great human values
But their dreams never materialized
Till they met to merge them into one
Like the two halves of a broken pot
They missed each other without knowing each other

One was a kenyan the other a Swede
In the streets of Nairobi they met
Coincidence sparked a flame of hope
Glowing brightly in alleys of kimilili
As they raised funds to build schools
Establishing bonds between communities
Bringing two nations close to each other
showing the way to those who spent millions
But have nothing to show more than reports
The power of friendship is a power like no other
