Somalia, a nation gang-raped by warlords, has been out of world attention since the US/UN intervention failed in early nineties. World Community may think Somalia as a tiny and insignificant patch of land which has no oil or diamond. But that is not true .
While saying happy new year to you all, I address this peom personally to the UN Secretary General Dr. Kofi Anan.
Behind me is a pool of Blood
Beside me is a heap of carcasses
Before my eyes, i see a desert
ever-stretching and glaring
under the heat of summer
Violent winds whirl around me
in formidable circles
slamming sand and stones on my face
Coal Dust carrying human remains
descend upon my skinny, naked body
I am Mother Somalia
I am sheltering in the wind
I deserve a blanket
Would you give one?
