I look at photos
of old
Picasso
and old
Bukowski
and all their women.
the women
flocked
to their genius
threw themselves
at their hairy feet
and gave
whatever it is
nubile young things
give to ancient relics
in the name of Art.
Picasso and Buk
gods —
loose and lined
flabby
drunk
even so — gods
and I wonder
if I get famous
at my age
will the men come?
young men
muscled men
tanned
toned
men
will they flock
and debase
themselves
for a drop
of knowledge
from my artistic well?
I think not, but then
I think of O'Keeffe
and yes, it happened
for her. lines
flab
missing teeth
I'm not sure if she drank
but
she loved.
the ceiling needs a scrape
and maybe
I should do this.
repaint it with some of that
textured crap
so the next time
a chip loosens
or a crack appears
I won't notice
but I hate working over my head
though some will say
I should be quite used
to working
over my head
by now.
if I close my eyes
and hold the lids down
with
with
with...I dunno, something
for weight
maybe apples
will I finally
be able to sleep?
You, always get to me...
Hell, if I was a guy...I'd be there, well, I am here at least as a fan and I would sit and listen to you for hours....uh...they will come, geez, Pat, Look at you, And if they seek Genius...I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE A WORRY...funny, before I read this, this is something I am so glad that you wrote, as, okay...well, am I the only one attracted by a kind of genius...heck, Liam Neeson? (okay, so he's gorgeous, but what an actor, same as Crowe...Gary Oldman? ...Oh, you know...Obviously!!!)
um, U2's Bono is one of my fave poets/lyrics, but poetry, still...( but married) and John Lennon is, um, dead...and mostly, Oh, heck...JUST YOU ROCK, WOMAN!!!!!

Patricia...you blew me away with this one...fantastic girl...I love all of those artists too...my heroes...you are included...Floria
Patricia, yes it is genius that attracts others to the poets and artists and one of great talent. Just as your poetry attracts those like me, who bow at your magnificence.
Your work will survive the way theirs has. You have the gualities needed to climb the highest poetic mountain. From your very first poem I have love and admired your work and this poem is no different. The ones who come to you here now, are more perceptive then the average AD member. They see you as I do. On the road to success. It will be terribly to me if you never make it. I love you. Bill
Not only will they come to you, but they will be the ones with intelligence who understand the beauty of your words and who will see into you. Fantastic poem.
A great write for all of us whose writings have often been passed off as nothingness. May God Bless you and all here at Author's Den who so cheerfully welcome all of our viewpoints, regardless of what they may be.
Keep up the good work!
Jill
I like Charles Bukowski too! ~ and the modern poets who likes to use metaphors have Picasso's spirit in them.
Good write and very interesting piece!

As always, this is one great write, and why for so many years my wife did not want me to write. Young girls, older women, even some men in comfortable shoes, waited on each word that I would type. Alas.... she has allowed me the right to write once more, now that the door to my heart has been sealed shut, closed forever. Sad but true.
