Memories of childhood in East Tennessee
CEDAR HOLLER The breath of cedars on a moonlit path Katydids sing out, “Come along.” A creek is trilling, “It’s dark, and it’s warm.” The mockingbird unveils its song. The holler is deep The shacks all run-down The only way out Is the road into town I can’t capture memories they hover like words lost and forgotten Like green hummingbirds.
