Off is where my mind is set
guilty feelings if I let it rest
purring like a smooth machine
not a rise nor fall,
but how long will it keep? my beating
heart soon to be released
as i prepare for such casual meeting
while knowing of it all; the rise, the fall.
the rise, the fall..
but how long will it keep? my beating
heart's strewn beneath the hoards
of your life's work- now, you say,
it can't be done, the rise...
the fall. the off-switch you taught
to an overly emotional heart
is on, witnessing you give up.
I continue to act strong,
my back up against the wall,
terrified you'll catch my fear like a cold.
the beating of time clocking me still.
