I worte this when i was at my lowest. My friend had been the victim of domestic violence and she saw a way to get free. this is dedicated to her the true survivor.

The Holy Dove

As his fist collides with my chin

All I know is that I cannot win.

My baby sleeps on upstairs

Tucked away in the land of the bears.

I hear a sound

As I fall to the ground.

I see her on the stairs

Not that he cares.

He carries on

Until the light has gone.

Maybe I have won

Now we would only have fun.

She sits and cries

His fist flies.

Dragged down by her hair

I thought he used to care.

She whimpers and whines

He makes her write lines

One mistake

The miss-spelling of the word lake.

He punches her on the chin

The neighbours hear the din.

And still they glare

Gossipers greet

Why did she bring this to our street?

The don’t care about my girl

They stand and watch as our despair does unfurl

One moment of peace of love

Before I see the holy dove

Come to rescue us from the hell

All bad memories left at the well.

How well you capture what so many women suffer silently until they realize there is a better way...

Be always safe,

Sadly, your poem deals with a much too common theme in this world/life, Chels. Your verses are most compelling. Welcome to AD. Love and best wishes to you,

You have perception beyond your years. The abuser beats down the victim until they believe that they deserve the abuse and usually they haven't the means or will to leave. The line about the baby being on the stairs and witnessing her mother's abuse is heartbreaking. A resounding cheer to your friend for having the courage to go!! She is lucky to call you "friend". You are a fine poet, young lady. Welcome!

Chels,
Welcome to AD, I can totally relate to this poem. I have been a victim of domestic violence (8 years ago). I am free and safe and healthy and happy. Tell your friend to leave, and never look back.
You write a very tender sad poem here, but one that will touch many of your readers.
I wish you peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

Such a painful penn.
Tight write, great rhyme and meter.
But the subject makes ones blood boil.
Very graphic visuals.
Great to see you on here young lady.
GTG, on the hoof...
