The bleak thoughts of being forgotten,
The fears that love is sure to stray,
Silence, its roar so deafens
What could have chased you away?

A tick of time so heartless,
Its heel, merciless into my spine,
Just wordless gaps of sadness
Brought low by passion's other side.

Then mercy sings, the telephone rings,
Your presence brings such relief.
The voice within, what joy it brings!
Clouds of doubt, instant in retreat.

The voice, it brings such comfort,
No loss, my fears benign!
An ally life's daily combat,
Simple words anoint this soul like wine.

Soon that gift brings forth another,
Your hands tucked close to mine.
One thing more I wish and pray for:
A touch that will be full-time.
