Today two firefighters were laid to rest. A funeral mass was shown on television for the bravery and the heros they became. A prayer was read that I would like to share with you. If I understood this correctly it is an oath taken by the firefighters.
When I am called to duty, God, wherever Flames may rage
Give me the strength to save some life, whatever Be its age
Help me embrace a little child before it is too late
Or save an older person from the horror of that fate
Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out
I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me
To guard my every neighbor and protect their property
And if according to your will I have to lose my life
Please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife
Dedicated to all Firefighters around the world
Just a little reminder of what we take for granted.
As someone who knows all too well the pain that is left behind to the family when a fireman loses his life, I commend you for posting this prayer. The pain from the loss never fully fades. Thanks, Jill
