Because I could not stop for Death,
He kindly stopped for me;
The carriage held but just ourselves
And Immortality.
We slowly drove, he knew no haste,
And I had put away
My labor, and my leisure too,
For his civility.
We passed the school where children played,
Their lessons scarcely done;
We passed the fields of gazing grain,
We passed the setting sun.
We paused before a house that seemed
A swelling of the ground;
The roof was scarcely visible,
The cornice but a mound.
Since then 't is centuries; but each
Feels shorter than the day
I first surmised the horses' heads
Were toward eternity.

A że się dla Śmierci zatrzymać nie mogłam,
Ona dla mnie postój zrobiła uprzejmie;
Wóz uniósł jedynie nas
I Nieśmiertelność.
Wolno jechałyśmy, pośpiechu nie znała,
A wszak odłożyłam ja, przed wyruszeniem
Prace, i wypoczynki wraz,
Za tę przyjemność.
Minęłyśmy szkółkę, gdzie dzieci swawola
Domowych swych zadań niewiele znająca;
Minęłyśmy baczne zboża,
I zachód słońca.
Przy domku stanęłyśmy, co się wydawał
Jak w ziemi powierzchni wezbranie nieduże;
Z lekka tylko dach wystawał,
A gzyms jak wzgórek.
Wieki już minęły, ale każde stulecie
Odczucie mi daje krótszego niż ów dzień;
Wpierw wtedy myślałam, końskie łby
Patrzą, gdzie wieczność.
There could not be two languages of exact same rhyme and sound; translation does not damage, unless it is indifferent to language nature. I hope to make my rhyme in Polish correspond with the American original -- though they are, necessarily, different sounds, you may think a contour -- I yet doubt the clarity of "a message", whichever the tongue. ;)
As a translator, I do not "disambiguate" (there's no such mind reading); I translate. :)
