I Tried to Save You

I threw you a rope

but it was too short

I wanted to save your life

and I saw you reach for it

but you disappeared

falling through the quiet.

I often think of you

as I look at the clouds

floating through my mind

in the back of the woods.

but you disappeared

falling through to black.

Sometimes I want you

to smile again but sadly.

And try again to reach out

with your eyes glowing.

But you disappeared

without your crazy hat.

You disappeared

and you didn’t even look back.
