Prayer in My Pocket

Dust on my face

A scratchy prayer in my pocket

To hold me till Monday

Desert hot, and cold at night

Samuel Colt by my side

And the Bible in my mind

Keeps me safe from

The rattlers at my feet

Trying hard to remember

The last words of the preacher

As he played his fifth ace

Didn’t die easy, scared as hell

The prayer in my pocket

Keeps falling down through

The hole in my broken soul

As I look for lights on the horizon

Dust on my face

Samuel Colt cocked by my side

Looking for neon lights

Maybe turn myself in.

You've "painted" this scene beautifully with your imagery.

Ya could've been a cowboy but the neon lights did you in. Well, that and the one hole preacher assuming you were a good shot. Enjoyed muchly. Patrick

Awesome sketch of the Old West! It's dusty and time-worn poetry that illustrates Prayer in My Pocket on the pulp cover, Day! Be well.

PRAYER...NOT UNTIL WE ACCEPT THE LORD AS PERSONAL SAVIOR, DO WE BEGIN TO LEARN HOW POWERFUL IS THIS WEAPON OF EVERY CHRISTIAN. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS TIMELY MESSAGE. BLESSINGS AND LOVE,

Yeah, turn yourself in, anything is better than being on the desert at night with those rattlers at your feet...you wouldn't catch me there, no way...Ed
