Silently Walking on Water

Walking across the water with snowshoes

Ever getting caught in the current of

Spawning Salmon finding their way up river

Laying eggs for the otters to find and eat

Before the wild weather of winter freezes over.

Jesus didn’t wear snowshoes until he found

Himself hidden in the Arctic behind the invisible

Circle. But walking on water frozen hundreds

Of feet thick without fear of drowning

Can make all Eskimos feel saved from something.

The deep light of darkness settles silent snowshoes

As the intensely intricate space and time

Changes shallow thinking at the top of the world

Without mindless frequencies of top-forty radio

Or muddled messages from Jesus falling on rocky ground.
