Crazy young Kathryn,
Oh why did it happen?
Only after he was dead, and gone…
Weird and strange in the wake of her ways,
Walk on by and leave her alone.
Her soul-stealing eyes leave you empty inside.
She thinks everything’s prettier in flesh and bone.
Talking so often to that boy in the coffin,
Oh where her poor mind has gone…
Kathryn’s dancing barefoot across his grave,
Whispering and singing and calling his name.
“Oh Billy boy,
Be frightful no more.
Going up, you go…
Up you go.”
“Darkness can’t hurt you,
My eyes won’t desert you,
Billy, smite the foe…
Smite the foe.”
“Wrestle the beast,
Till the bitter defeat,
Then lay down low,
Brother, lay down low…”
“Two pennies, like dice,
Is the Ferryman’s price.
Pay the toll,
Billy, pay the toll…”
The mists cling to her feet,
As she sways and totters and hums the score,
In the moonlight, her skin glistens,
As the dead boy, he listens,
Laying there silently on the graveyard floor.
