I’m shaking...
And I don’t know wether it’s the cold,
Running through my body.
Or the fear...
Making itself known deep within my chest.
Calling out to keep me home.
Little arms wrap around me.
Will I be here when all this is over?
Or will I leave behind a legacy,
That is far to young to even remember my face?
Hold onto this moment and never let go.
What have I gotten myself into?
Now, staring out of the window,
The frost making a distorted image,
Of everything I love.
As I pull away,
To some unknown destination.
To the promise of almost certain death.
The only clearness in the image,
Is the imprint of my hand,
Reaching for you as far as it’ll go...
Now is as good a time as any,
To wonder if this is the right thing to do.
Someone has to lead the lost...
All the time I’m given in this life,
Is spent protecting the one thing this has taken away.
So that they can live in the peace and freedom I cannot enjoy.
Preserving their innocense on the worst way.
And now is as good a time as any,
To think about it.
I’m too young to die!
The days grow,
And the silence stretches,
Further beyond the reaches of these sandy graves.
While the ones who love us sit at home,
Wondering if it’s worth the price they’ll pay.
For a Mother...Son...
Father...Daughter...
Lover...Friend...
That will never see their families again.
