Of all the things to be left unsaid,
The lady had clearly gone off her head.
Shuffling her mad shoes down the street.
Her mind nothing but a hapless blur...

At this hour the tired should go off to bed,
While the restless stay up to dance in the heat.
Without the sun to be a guide,
She walked straight into the jacket that would keep her.

If by chance, I saw you again...
Past the time that kept us sane,
Would I be as committed?
Would I be as profane?

What would we do with all the things we’ve seen?
Shelf them for selfish old days,
So we can pull them off and wipe the dust clean,
When we can’t even remember each other’s names...

Strangers wouldn’t believe a word we said,
Neither will our children.
Memories like these are better locked in our head,
Some things, it would have shocked them.

Looks that kept the blood stirring.
Days that stretched on for melting miles...
Hours that ran and silenced,
The curses from heavy mouths.

Innocents that were shattered and charred,
Threw damnation to the heavens for the life it gave them.
Where angels and saints halos were marred,
Too young to hear the words they created then.

You and I wondered these streets alone,
Losing faith in the bittersweet reality.
Walking over the carcasses of dreams
Leaving broken bits in the feet of the living.

Those were the days,
That even kept the fatalist from drowning,
But all has been gone and forgotten now.
Except these two hearts left pounding.

It should do well that we remember when,
The sound of voices woke us from our haze.
What once was can never be again,

Those were the days...

Sadly, many people shuffle after a certain chasm is breeched: after the mind reaches the capacity for reality to choose. It is conditioning that our Creator gives us when reality fails is.

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
