down to the sea again

at jetty’s end the ocean’s crash!
in the spray they cling
to each other.

she pushes him away,
says catch me--if you can!
races him and the sudden rain
down the jetty, laughing all the way,
until he sweeps her off her feet
at the grass hut.

she resists his embrace
and, still laughing, sprawls
on the mat inside the hut.

the price to enter, she says,
is a pretty poem.

he starts, roses are red--
no! I want to hear the surf.

he sings:
midsummer squall,
the ocean slaps the shore
one wave at a time.

she springs from the hut
leaps into the shallow surf,
her dark hair tangled in seaweed.
from the tangles he plucks
a tiny multicolored shell,
puts it to her ear.

oh, a man’s voice!
anyone I know?
she laughs. I'll never tell.

the sun reappears.
hand in hand they follow
their shadows along the beach
to an abandoned bandstand,
listen to music of the sea.

whose voice did you hear?
yours, silly.

he leads her to the hut.

may I enter?
yes…

they
ride
the
rise
and
fall
of
the
sea.

a gull’s cry!

through brandy snifters,
they watch the sunset,
a silent toast.

Tasteful and charming erotica. Who could deny love to another with the scenario you compose by the sea? Beautiful and alluring poem, Gene!

Ah, the dance is perfect in this passion play, Gene. Like the waves coming in and out through the characters, the climax in the gull's cry and denouement expressed "through brandy snifters(as)they watch the sunset, a silent toast." Enjoyed!

I don't care HOW you do it, and I love the results each time! This one is outstanding and so much on target.

its the subtle play.....the teasing lapping of wetness. . .. .
the anticipationof breaking, like those waves. .. .
as if sandcastles were feminine, you build her up and watch her dissolve as your underneath. . ..

the brandy Gene, a tremendous romantic upgrade to the old post copulative cigarette -- "they ride the rise and fall of the sea" --passionate images you shared with us -- poetry of the highest order relating such a wonderful story -- I have removed John Masefield from my library shelf -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael

Gene,
An elegant romp with all the right ingredients of flirt, tease, and suspenseful promise; on another level, and intertwined, the foreplay of romance leading to an act of sexual love culminating in a gull's cry (excellent that) and the post-coital brandy and sunset where nothing need be said. I love it!

Reminds me of times past at the sea, several seas. You have captured the essence of what it is to love every sight, sound, touch, dream, when you are with the one you treasure most. Lovely, really terrific. Hugs, J'nia

This is beautiful, romantic, enthralling - it has the flavor and tone of an old 1940s-style movie. I love the banter and playfulness here.
