A STALKER

The looking glass does not reflect
All the viewer would expect
And when the image would belie
What the heart would swallow wide

A mixed confusion follows thus
Dillusions mar the clear with rust
And then the truth is seen anew
Corrosion slices through the view

From what locale of fantasies
Does this viewer choose to breathe
What comfort comes in self told lies
The looking glass is none the wise

There beyond the true reflection
The eyes see self without affection
Then search beyond the looking glass
To fill the void, as sense would pass

Living in a fantasy
To claim a love not meant to be
Claming kinship, bonds and more
In delusion, evermore

Sad to say, there is no blame
Confused, adrift, a spirit lame
If only one could understand
Not all were meant, to clasp in hand

This is a timeless poem. We all have to take that reflection seriously from time to time, unless we become stagnant. Love the rhythm here. Nicely said...a very deep issue we all encounter.

Many reflections cast in this piece, Anita... like a veritable Hall of Mirrors. Quite a h(a)unting piece really. Perhaps we ARE all dogged by the face that we feel we know so well, but which we will never be able to set our eyes on face to face, so to speak. Is it therefore any wonder that we are shy of ourselves? Flawlessly conceived and written. TY Kate xx

Good image - reminded me of the 'Thin Man' series. Sobering message and a nice flowing format. Richard

Such a haunting refrain, Pax! Startling...but your poetic words read so fine with meter/beat...Enjoyed, friend!

'To claim a love not meant to be'

When the object of the stalker's unrequited love fails to reciprocate, that's when the menace of its pursuer stings.

Compelling.

Seeing my reflection in the glass
cures me of living in a fantasy...
unfortunately, what is is as it is,
or vice versa.
