Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~Elizabeth Stone
(This is one of my favorite pictures of my son and I, he was only 3 weeks old here, and now he is a Marine ...sniff)
WHO
Who is this man in my house?
I've never seen him before......
I know his voice and presence
But this stranger I'm not prepared for
Why did this man take my boy?
My baby with curly blonde hair
Is he someplace far in my past?
Could I find again him with my prayers?
Why can't the world just stand still?
I think I could use a rest
It seems this life is too full
Of trials, pitfalls and tests
Was all this preordained?
DEAR GOD.......HOLD TIGHT MY HANDS!!!!!!!!
Or these these times just random?
Grant me STRENGTH to understand....
I set ALL trust in YOU dear God
Your my safest, smartest choice
And I pray for this stranger in my house
Who speaks with my son's voice
Who is this man in my house?
I've never seen him before
But I'll have to get to know him
Before he leaves for the US Marine Corps

Thank You Anita,
I loved this write then, and love it even more now during these troubled times.
That is the terrible truth about war. I too have two sons who are of draft age. My oldest son has a child so he won't join but our youngest son is impressionable. Having lived through Viet Nam I can't say anymore what's right or wrong. It worries me sick. Why can't people just get along? That's the ultimate question! No answer!
It is so hard to sever the cord Anita. My heart goes out to you. I have a son of a similar age and just imagining myself going through the anguish you are is so painful. You and your son are in my prayers. Thank you for sharing this poem.

Beautiful poem and picture...I pray that peace will prevail, also that our military will be prepared for whatever comes, and I will keep your son in my prayers.Remember that hope is eternal;-)
Your not crazy Anita...just feeling what any parent feels as their young grow older and wiser from the wisdom you taught to them...you done a great job of this poem, you write with such honesty and realism, which in itself is so refreshing and i thank you for that... as for your sone joining up, you cant wrap them in cotton wool forever but thats just another way of saying you'll never stop worrying about them, he'll be just fine, like his mother...take care i'll say a prayer for him, i have Gods ear lol...well done again...Mark xx
