Poem Artwork

I  got a call today,
From the other side of the Earth.
It came from somebody who I care for,
And do you want to know what's worse?
He's a young man
That I've grown to love,
You won't have to think hard,
To know who I'm thinking of.

He fathered that baby
With your blood in her veins,
And he's doing his part,
In spite of your games,
To do what's right,
Each and every day,
But you still don't get it,
We can safely say.

You are a bottomless pit,
Of sadness and guile,
And I could be more descriptive,
If I were to stop and think awhile,
And it just goes on and on,
It will never stop,
It is nothing less
Than I've always thought,
But soon, my dear,
Will come the day,
When you'll be called to task,
For your destructive ways.

You could always blame me,
For nearly twenty years,
But I'm long gone,
And I didn't shed a tear.
But you've moved on,
To another generation,
Marking new victims
For annihilation.

"It's not about you."
That's what you used to say to me.
"You must sacrifice everything,
For your family."
But I did that
Without a second thought,
But you would have thought that I was Satan,
From the hell that you wrought.

All that I ever wanted,
Was to make you smile,
To dispose of your demons
For a little while,
But your powers of introspection,
Are severely lacking,
And for the fiftieth time,
You had sent me packing.
That's okay,
I'll have you know,
Because I had to get away from you,
So I could grow.

I'm happy now,
More than I've ever been.
You see, I'm in love
With my best friend.
I would wish for you,
Nothing less,
And I hope that you,
Will have the very best.

I implore you...
Give up the fight,
Let our children go,
It's time for them to take flight.
They need to have
Families of their own,
As much as it scares you,
To be alone.

I know  that my advice,
Has never influenced you,
And you don't find my guidance
To be strong and true .
But you must remember,
If even with mild mirth,
That I loved you more,
Than any other man on Earth.

It's not too late,
To save them all,
Their anger and sadness,
To forestall.
They don't need more
Of what you have to offer,
If you'll just leave them alone,
They will live well and prosper.
