Life In Our Country World

Poem Artwork

There were fifteen deer in the back yard,
Last night when I got home.
They were biting off chunks of the salt lick,
Considering where next to roam.

Daffodils popping through the ground in the front yard,
Reaching toward the sky,
We’ve got seventeen acres of wilderness,
That God made for you and I.

Labrador’s chasing deer in the backyard,
But she’s much too fat and slow,
Newfoundland’s eating Daffodils in the front yard,
Eats anything to help her grow.

You know our life would be so simple,
If there wasn’t so much to do,
We work so hard in the daytime,
At night we’re too tired to - read, and other stuff.

But we’ve found that life is fun in the country,
Flying squirrels on the roof at night.
We’ve got bats in the eaves in the daytime,
And opossum give the dogs a fright.

I’ll never go back to the city,
And you can take that to the bank.
And for all the trials and tribulations,
I suppose you have me to thank.

Be patient, my dear, soon you’ll love it,
I promise you from my heart,
It won’t be long until you’re a country girl,
Driving tractors and lighting – campfires.

I love it just looking at it! I know what you mean, life was a little easier in some ways when we lived in the city, but since we've moved to the mountains my blood pressure went down! There's something to be said for less stress and a little more 'tranquility'...
