Lay me down in tranquil sleep,
Lovely, lazy, long, and deep;
Dreams of love
With nubile maidens,
Not,
Chased through narrow alleyways
By the Sons of Satan.
A man my age
Needs a good night’s rest,
If he’s to be at his very best,
Strong and sharp,
And highly competitive,
Not tired and boring
And annoyingly repetitive.
In my youth
Success at night,
Was typified
By carnal delight.
Today I am pleased
At fifty-three,
With eight hours of sleep
And no urge to pee.
With luck I’ll slumber
Into my elder years,
With nocturnal imaginings
Devoid of shame and fear,
But if I’m to be awakened
By a troubling dream,
Perhaps I’ll be rewarded
By an uninterrupted stream.
Sleep well and God bless you. Kathy
