Poem Artwork

In poetry with a capital P,

Which provides shelter for

Word coinages and imagery,

Not a technology of language

But rather a practice of closing

The gap between the language

And imagery acts the main part

So that one comes to the height

When image is a devised figure

In which reality and dreaming

Are no more so different, and

Whose innate name is a poet

With a capital P, and whose

Creativity reflects the pulse

Of all things: their incipience

And their full implementation

Before taking new coils of being.

He learns what others do not learn

And turns back to what all other men

Usually pass by. He supports them all

In taking naturally their own course but

Dares not to interfere with their affairs.

He abides by substance rather than

The hull, dismissing what is without

And sticking to what is deep inside.

He has no aspirations of his own,

But takes the aspiration of others

As his own. He concerns himself

Not with the verbal frames but with

Impacts, some unexpected questions

And riddles, and what is called 'mystery'

Of the ubiquitous Mind and Dharma's body.

I know I have succeded in conveying my message when I get sympathy from readers for something I have written that had nothing to do with me but it is assumed so just because I wrote it. Many times I do write about me but other times I am examining from all points of view, or to see the other side of something, stepping outside my own little box.

A fine tribute to the aspiration and tribulation of the poet, always in search of the mystery worthy of being delved into if not explained, of being exposed from all sides if not in full view. Thank you for reminding us of the challenges we face as writers and poets in our never-ending quest to articulate the spirit of the mystery in words. John
