When you practice your meditation, Sitting stiff and driving away All your vivid visualizations, It does not mean that the tiger stops Picking its way through the thicket, And the dragon refuses from its flight Amidst the clouds -- its cradle And infinite habitat. Conversely, It is the only way to generate the elixir Of eternity in the arts and poetry.

I understand what you mean by holding back our fears through meditation, but I don't see that process necessarily creating great arts and poetry. With that I'm a pragmatic fool that can see that great works of art and poetry are created by the most tormented.

It is interesting that this poem is entitled "Elixir". Once supposes that the elixir is drunk when once has achieve some semblance of success in calming the mind. In that case, there is a sense of serenity and peace that keep the tiger at bay; but (and this is an enormous BUT), the tiger "never stops picking its way" and the dragon "refuses from its flight" in the cluds of all places.
