A keen wordsmith

Needs only one thing:

The mind's eye dwelled

On whatever bright visions

Rise before it as a silver lining

Poked up the mass of dark clouds.

Balance is the key, especially for the poet and wordsmith, a vision, as you say, between the dark clouds and the silver lining. John

Poking the coals of the fiery embers of the imagination would probably be better than looking for silver linings. But then, dark clouds sell. Everyone likes to read misery and pain.
