Is tasteless as pure water,
While that of the petty men
Is sweet as infused liqueur.
But the tastelessness
Of the gentlemen's association
Leads on to affection;
And the sweetness
Of the petty men to aversion.
Demeanour of the petty men,
However, has a certain room
To be eventually improved,
While that of the gentlemen
Is to be let well alone. . .
