Poem Artwork

When I was a tiny tot

I've once caught the sun,

By accident it befell me,

Just before setting,

Therefore painlessly. . .

When I was a little kid

I rolled down a hill and,

Accidentally, broke my leg. . .

Oops-a-daisy! That was

A solid ground for my nates.

When you are a little child

Everything seems to be fine

With letting go smoothly

And in a regretless way.

When we are children, it's easy to engage in childish things. Forget our failures and enjoy the opportunity.

But then we learned nursery rhymes like Jack and Jill. We learned that life isn't always that rosy. But when we perform, we still say, "break a leg," anyway. ;-)

It seems that children have not had enough time for regret. Why should they. They are just getting to know and enjoy things. Regret will come later.

The many experiences a reader can reflect on from this poem is special. Yes, regretless letting go is something adults are primed to unlearn. Very succinctly put, this innocence recall.
