For a long time I wished to realize
And get the answers to some questions,
Such as, 'By what process of thought
Do we get to know our self-nature?'
'Where should we dwell and what to do
To find our rest in the true self-nature?'
And 'From what point should we start
And what path should we pursue
To make the self-nature fully realized?'

And recently I've got them all at once --
One sagely minded man has told me that
Exercising no thought is the first step
Towards knowing my true self-nature.
To dwell nowhere and do nothing is the step
Towards resting in the self-nature for long.
To start from nowhere and pursue no aim
Is the step towards making the self-nature
My newly found inherent characteristic.

Since I've gotten this, my concern now is:
Those who know nothing about this. . .
Which of us is right? On the other part,
I now try to guess, all those who know
Their self-nature, do they ever speak of it?
And those who speak of it, do they know
Anything about it? For this simple reason,
The sagely minded men convey their ideas
Thru activities, without the use of speech.

I have (personally) found, through abundant life-struggles, teachings, and experiences, that self-expression is the dominant necessity of human nature. Everything created - visible or invisible - conveys a message. A thought-provoking expression, Alexander. Peace... r

I agree with you that we define ourselves by what we do rather than what we say. Who we are is really the starting point: namely, nothing as I think you suggest in the poem.
