She was a newborn of a few weeks
When he came to visit.
Her Mom proudly placed
His first Granddaughter into his arms.
He reached into his pocket
And pulled out a shiny silver dollar.
He placed it into her tiny hand
And this time she grabbed it and held on
And it was her piece of her Grandpa’s heart
That she held.
He left her when she was two
But she still had the silver dollar.
It was stolen when she was forty something
But she knew she would always be rich.
No one could ever
steal the piece of his heart
He left with her that day.
