Just settled down for the night
And they start…
Red and blue flashes
Sirens screaming bye
An alarm in the night air blasts.
It is a street away …
Only an alley and a house
Between us and the fire
Yellow suited firemen race
Up ladders and break windows and
Tear holes in the roof
Flames burst through
You can feel the heat on our porch
As water is poured into
The gaping holes
16 people homeless
2 cats rescued
a couple minor injuries and
smoke inhalation.
3rd arson fire
10 days time, each one
coming closer to home.
It all takes me back
To a night when I was 10
Living on an old country road
Same sounds but further away
No less scary
Thousands of chickens lost
The searing smell of burning flesh and feathers
Never to be forgotten…
Thank God….not this time
