LIFE IN THE BALANCE
An old man’s passion
Is kindled by the dreams
Of a young man’s foolishness.
What’s left? Nothing but memories
Of a life gone so wrong. Wrong?
And the old man wonders
Can wrong be right
If wrong is the only music
He knows how to play.
Dreams echo, impossibilities
Wrapped in gossamer and dust
How can it be so? Must forget-but-
How can the unforgettable be forgotten?
The old man measures
Weighs the unforgettable
Against the unforgiveable
And realizes the balance often
Tilts in an old familiar way-
Not the answer he wanted
But it’s too late to do anything
Or anything about it now.
