I've been in a bit of a blue funk lately guys. Have written a bunch of stuff I haven't posted, have neglected my reading and commenting. Sometimes life comes upon you and buries you. Things are getting better. Here's what I wrote today....
SO NOW I’M 65
Its my birthday. Big Deal.
I am now 65. Double big deal.
Have the years made me
Any more intelligent?
Any more wise?
Any more holy?
Don’t know….
The jury is still out
On all those things.
It’s dangerous to claim
Anything without examination,
Ruthless self-examination.
More perspective is needed.
What I do know
Is that I am older,
A bit less healthy,
A bit less active.
The vultures
Keep my mailbox full
Trying to sell me
Stuff I either don’t need
Or can’t afford:
Medicare supplements,
Insurance for “final expenses”
Pills and devices
To ease my mobility
And add more “spark”
In my life, as if I need any.
Nah, it’s just one day,
Another nice August day
And I am determined
To make the best of it,
However THAT happens.
I’m given this day
And this day alone
Nothing more, nothing less.
And you know what?
That’s a wonderful gift
And I do believe
I will take advantage of it.
