Nothing says permanence like change.....

CHANGE I

Nothing is forever:
In the span of a man’s life
The hourglass turns
Many, many times,
And what once was suitable and meet
No longer serves the purpose.
No mystery,
This is the way of men.

Or consider the tides:
Twice daily going to ebb,
Then the waters rush back,
Constantly flowing,
Covering, uncovering.
It has always been so,
And so it always will be.
Nothing is new under the sun.

There is a truth here:
The only thing unchanging in life
Is that life is forever changing.
The sand in the hourglass
Is not gold dust or diamonds,
I need not hold it so precious
That in the end I forget
It is only sand.
