Why?

The earth may shift
The waters rise
There’s no discrimination.
It ought to lift
Bare human eyes
To cause for contemplation.

The towers fell-
So many lost
Though some may find a reason
The learned tell
It’s just the cost
Of storms that come in season.

Some think of all
In just one breath
But people one by one
Are born and fall
The reign of death
Will be escaped by none.

I’m not immune
To wishing more
Than what I plainly see,
But “Name That Tune”
And keeping score
Have taught me differently.

I pay no mind
To luck or fate
Or faith by any name.
No more designed
To contemplate
But love is why I came.
