How Does This Happen?

Totally exhausted
We both crash into bed
After an impossible day,
Lying there as if in graves
In total darkness.
Not to be without a goodnight
Token of affection…
I touch your shoulder.
The feel of you-
Flesh on flesh…
It is impossible to describe.
My hand slides down across your arm.
You say, “Whatcha doin?”
I inch up against you now…
Full contact.
We were so dead…
Burned out like summer grass…
But things are getting green.
Some sun must be out somewhere…
As the next thing we know…
No need to ask questions.

Nothing quite like finding out that the fatigue you thought you had took a walk around the block and allowed a different drummer to attend to you . . .
