This really happened, my entire family witnessed this phenomena...

An ordinary day like many before,
We laughed and played,
Then we went indoors...

Supper was a tasty stew,
Tall glass of milk,
Sugar cookies, too...

Time for bed...we said goodnight,
Awaiting the sandman,
Our eyes shut tight...

For reasons that remain unknown,
We got out of bed,
In the hall we froze...

A glowing white light,
Our eyes did see,
Awestruck we stared...this could not be...

A lady held a candle ,
Dressed in Victorian attire,
Turning slowly, she shared a smile...

Floating down our hall she went,
Back into historical bliss,
Stunned we were...and scared, oh yes...

Zenith, this is a fascinating tale and very well written. In that situation, I believe I would have reacted just as you did. "Smiles" My philosophy is when dealing with the supernatural, the less you understand the better off you'll be. Thanks, Dolores

yikes!...but not yikes...I have had a couple of like experiences, and while startling, there was no real fear...this work of yours is well done...has a wonderful gothic feel to it.

I love this tale; and I've seen such apparitions, too. But I'm kind of weird - I look forward to them!

She could be anyone from the past.. Perhaps your minds were open enough just for that second to see the spirits that do live around us.. Great write. Welcome her..I am sure she is simply watching.

Zenith, the lady could be a Jinni, the Jinn are known to live among us, though most of us never get to see them, some claim to have had ecounters with them. The Jinn are made from fire. They, too, have a free will.

Interesting experience,
Safi

For those who believe in the cross, the laday could be Mary without her son this time. Just a guess. You had no reason to feel scared as the she held a candle in her hand and brought light into your room. Excellent poem.

Makes me rethink my position on not believing in ghosts! Truly eerie, but poetically perfect prose, Z. Good job!
