I wrote History because it reflects my philosophy on life. History was written back in the mid-seventies. I was middle aged back then, but I was, even then, a conservative Christian. Back then, the name of the game was �woman�s lib� and equal opportunity for men and women. But my concern back then was the children. What about the babes? I found myself asking, what is our purpose in our life, liberation form responsibility, self gratification, physical wealth, fame, recognition? No, we are here to love one another. We are here to sacrifice for each other. Our purpose in life is to love and care for each other. This love and care has to start with our children and our families. No other creature that we know of other than man places more value on themselves than on their off-spring.
HISTORY Joseph D Palermo 1)_____________________________________ When man was born and the earth was young, Men fled from the storm and tunes of fear were sung, Life was brought forth in halls of stone From a womb of warmth to a cold dark home. Toddling feet to opened arms ran, Protected, not beat with a firm warm hand. Those of early years and clumsy arms Were taught the spear and hunting charms. When arms grew strong and muscles honed, Took mate life long to the halls of stone. 2) _____________________________________ When man was young and the earth was clean, Songs of fear were none, few beasts were seen. Birth of a child, a Holy event, in homes made of wood Were called God sent, caused by love and good. A three year old was cherished on high Yet was paddled and scolded when tempers did fly. The youth in his teens with spirit in strife, Learned much about queens and flowers and life. Young men bright and witty took wife to his own, Went out to the city while mother stood home 3) _____________________________________ When man is in teens and Earth paved with gray And mother stands free equal in work and play. Life at the day care so cold and bleak Is what infants will bare each day and each week. Toddlers will have no love all day and all night All they will know of is nursery school life. The cities and structures will fall down in ruin As a teenage eruption spells impending doom. Tomorrow's young humans will rebuild the state, Blaming us for the ruins of the family of late. 4) _____________________________________ Is it so hard for us to see that for adulthood, man needs family? Freedom for woman and man, any day, but fairness for children, I hope and I pray.
