A fictional poem about a child that loses his parents and ends up in a foster home.

The child sits quietly awaiting the news,

tapping his foot on the floor.

His stress filled eyes tear up a bit,

as he remembers the ones he adored.

He looks at the clock, tic tocking away.

His memories fill his head.

My mommy and daddy would let me go play,

but a man shot them both and they’re dead.

He fondly remembers the days in the past,

his dad, how he loved to have fun.

His mother was pretty and warm at heart,

how he cherished being their son.

He watches the lady who cares for him,

her uniform nicely pressed.

He can’t believe his parents are gone,

he once had a life that was blessed.

A knock is heard from inside the room,

the caretaker opens the door.

He nervously shakes as he straightens his hair,

and the people, he tries to ignore.

The man and his wife introduce themselves,

and seem just as nice as could be.

He hangs his head as he remembers his folks,

with these people he’ll never agree.

“I want to go home!” He yells to them all.

“I want my own mom and dad!

I miss them so much and I’m frightened to death,

Can’t you see how I’m just very sad?”

So the couple walk over to comfort the boy,

his face all covered with tears.

We’re sorry about your mom and your dad,

and we promise to rid you of fears.

They hug him so tight as he cries his heart out,

with the new parents he will be safe.

His caretaker smiles as she watches the three,

she has found a new home for her waif.
