Hidden by Truths

by Michael Charles Messineo — Read all 96 poems by Michael Charles Messineo

Okay.. this gets a little weird... but...
In creating my next set of characters for my next book, I often get lost in who they are, where they have been, and what they want in life. Sometimes I hear them thinking things that they won't actually say in the book.. but I know they are thinking them. All of my characters have their own little poems that explain to me who they are, much deeper than a normal made-up-biography.

Lost in your eyes, I cannot see,
hidden by truths, I cannot be.
Sharing a moment, I don't have the time.
Drinking emotions as if they were wine.

Pushing aside the things that I must.
Covering distance with hunger and lust.
Forgetting all things proper and true ,
Sharing my space, just looking at you.

What are the laws that govern our space.
Why must we travel mind altering pace.
Hidden aggressions are painted with love.
Showers of pain like rain from above.

Lost in your eyes, I cannot see,
hidden by truths, I cannot be.
Sharing a moment, I don't have the time.
Drinking emotions as if they were wine.

Great stuff. The rhymes feel natural and the word choice is elegant. It's simply very pleasurable to read.

Sometimes I hear them thinking things that they won't actually say in the book.. but I know they are thinking them.

Fascinating, Michael, and I've also felt the same. Characters in books often truly do take on a life of their own.
