I Discovered Magic

by Michael Charles Messineo — Read all 96 poems by Michael Charles Messineo

Researching magic for a new and exciting character for my next book, I quickly found my own thesis for his background.

Friday, March 2, 2007

I discovered magic, from an ancient man,
taught me flying cards, also sleight of hand,
taught me big illusions, disappearing things,
breaking out of handcuffs, clasping magic rings.

Took his years of magic, adopted for my own,
traveled East to China, trained with Master Poe.
Learned to be invisible, taught me how to hide,
travel incognito, be a ranger of the night.

I discovered power, deep within my mind,
I can move small objects, clips or balls of twine,
influence decisions, make you change your will,
tell your ‘morrow early, and predict your next thrill.

Flirted with some chemistry, making magic potions,
touched the magic of the moon, the universe in motion,
practiced ancient medicine, reading every thought,
rolled them all together, performing what was taught.

Now I travel cross the world, perfecting all my flair,
pulling up the curtain and vanish in mid-air.
A great magician knows they’re good, and exactly when,
the crowd asks How’d you do that, and WOW do that again!
