Morecambe Bay
Through the windows I gaze
upon a calm slate-blue sea,
And wet glistening sandbanks
as far as my eyes can see.
The jagged ribs of a wreck
exposed by the receding tide,
In a sandy grave so close
to the channel it lays beside.
On the dark line of the horizon
an oil rigs platform stands out,
Back-lit by a golden-pink glow
the sun’s rays spread about.
In a pale turquoise-blue sky
dark silver trimmed clouds glide past,
And a reflection of the sun
sails upon the golden path it has cast.
Flocks of birds flying homeward
close to the end of the day,
Wheeling and circling
as they cross over the bay.
Soon the sun has gone down
and night is fast descending,
The oil rigs lights twinkle
as sea and sky are blending.
