The sky is overcast and grey again
holding promise of a storm,
The humidity is rising
and this isn’t quite the norm.
It’s supposed to be an English summer
bright and sunny but not too hot,
But it’s not working out like that
and our weather has gone to pot.
We’ve had a lot of rain this year
wish we could export it to the Sudan,
or to the many other countries
where on rain there is a ban.
Last week we had a thunderstorm
so violent it shook the house,
I felt the tremor through my feet
I’m glad I’m not timid as a mouse.
A lightning bolt struck the ground
so close it shook our hill,
I thought we might start sliding
but our foundations are holding still.
Now I wish that I could say
"Oh to be in England now that summer’s here,"
I wonder which poet penned that line
his head was not too clear!
I wanted to send some of the rain to my sister in Arizona
and tornados here too...far from the norm...
well done

We are all amazed! Excellent poem! Glad your got through the
bad weather parts!
Usually here in the Midwest in August, it's 85 degrees with extremely high humidity. Last night it was about 50 degrees, with no humidity. And we had quite a violent thunderstorm the other day, too.
here in texas, spring started with a round of severe thunderstorms, and then nothing--all the storms seemed to pummel the plains and the midwest. then came june. june 1 brought a tornado (one block south of my place), and then the rains came...and came...and came. second wettest june on record. then july, we had over 8" of rain, making this the wettest july on record. august has been on the warm side, but not hot (like usual) and VERY humid; several cold fronts have already passed through...VERY unusual weather here, too.
enjoyed this write, and i'm glad you weren't hurt when the lightning hit. :)
