Rivalry between me and Mrs Blackbird!

Cherry Ripe

Cherries ripening on the Morello tree,

Carefully watched by Blackbird and me,

Who will be first to gather the crop?

Close by she sits, watching the shop!

To my garden I went down,

Not one cherry to be found,

She has eaten them all

And cleaned up the stall!

But it’s hard to get cross

Even over this loss,

Because she brightens each day

In her own special way.

My garden is filled

With the music she’s trilled,

For she sings all day long

And so sweet is her song.

Her payment in berries

Of my sweet juicy cherries

Is a small price to pay

For sweet birdsong so gay.

Great imagery and telling story. Crows steal my cherry crops almost every year. I don't have nearly such charitable feelings for them as you do for your blackbird.

Awwwww this is truly lovely...and humorous too, but you are right a small price to pay for her brightened song!
Love this piece, a pleasure to read!

Hahahaha. We used to have cherry trees where I grew up. It was always a battle with the birds, even with netting added. Love the poem. Bravo. Great imagery.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
